April 2nd 2012 meeting
We will be having our next meeting on the third floor of David King Hall in room 3017 at 5:00pm, Monday April 2, 2012. We will be designing flyers for the AWLA fundraiser, work out the details of the fundraiser and, as always, new members are welcome! This will be a brief meeting and is worth 2 points. See you there!
We got a lot done at our last meeting and discussed some new and exciting topics! For anyone who couldn't make it, here is a quick run-down of what we went over:
Proposed Field Trips: Vet clinic tours, Zoo trips (possibly "behind the scenes" at front royal)
Suggestions for website: food/product company recall links on the website for pet products, FAQ from veterinarians/veterinary students about applying to/preparing for veterinary school, Alternative careers in the veterinary field
Stephanie gave a compelling presentation on a protozoan parasite, Babesia, that can be transmitted to dogs via tick bites. There is currently no vaccine against this parasite. At this point, the best preventative is protecting your dog with topical tick repellents such as Frontline.
Jessica presented an idea for the Pre-veterinary club symbol; we will be adding a cow to the image and present new symbol ideas via facebook page/website.
Our wonderful secretary, Meadhbh, typed a copy of the club's constitution. This can be viewed on the tab labeled, "About Us."
Several new club rules were put into effect:
To be an active member of the Pre-veterinary club of George Mason, a minimum of a 2.0 GPA must be maintained along with a minimum of ten points. Officers must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and at least 20 points. Points may be earned by attending meetings and club events.
We discussed ideas for our t-shirts and should be finalizing our design in the near future! If you are interested in contributing to the design, now is the time! You may post ideas on our news/discussion page or the facebook page.
